FAQs
Q: Who is Prairie Estates Genetics?
A: We are a family-owned company based in Wisconsin that provides dairy-specific silage genetics and forage management services.
Q: What does Prairie Estates Genetics do?
A: We identify, test, supply, and manage superior corn silage genetics for exclusive use in dairy applications. We provide year-round service and analysis to help dairies maintain consistency and maximize output. In addition, we offer alfalfa, small seed, and our own fermentation aid.
Q: How does Prairie Estates Genetics differ from other seed companies?
A: We are not a seed company. We are forage consultants who manage curated forage genetics specifically for dairies. We do not participate in the grain corn commodity market.
Q: How is Prairie Estates Genetics’ service different?
A: We collaborate directly with your team year-round, tracking the performance of our silage from field to milk tank. We collect agronomic and nutritional data throughout the year and provide independent laboratory testing. These results are shared with your advisors to identify opportunities to improve milk yield.
Q: How are Prairie Estates Genetics’ hybrids different from others?
A: We independently test our hybrids for an additional 2–3 years beyond their industry release before introducing them to the dairy market. Our hybrids deliver the highest fiber digestibility of all non-BMR varieties and the highest rumen starch availability.
Q: How will these hybrids create value for my farm?
A: We enhance your IOFC by providing consistency and efficiency year after year through customized service to your dairy’s needs. Our hybrids offer superior nutritional value for improved output and herd health, while also reducing the risk of yield loss during silage transitions.
Q: What does improving IOFC mean in real terms?
A: By delivering the best total starch, rumen-available starch, and fiber digestibility among non-BMR hybrids, our genetics can generate yield gains that translate to over one dollar per head per day in improved IOFC.
Q: How does this affect my bottom line?
A: By lowering ration costs and increasing silage nutritional value, the monetary gains scale directly with herd size over time.
Q: How is silage value determined?
A: Many dairy farmers know the cost of their silage but not its true value. To calculate actual value, one must consider yield, nutritional profile, efficiency, and production costs. We help track these metrics in your barns and fields to deliver real IOFC results.
Q: What types of hybrids and technology do you offer?
A: We provide hybrids ranging from conventional to fully traited, across various relative maturities, prioritizing nutritional value and silage performance.
Q: What other products do you offer?
A: Along with our high-quality alfalfa products, we supply our highly effective fermentation aid, Harvest Home.
Q: What tools support your services?
A: Beyond our test plot program, wet-chemistry labs, moisture tracking, bunker audits, and feed analysis, we utilize in-house tools such as remote field mapping, drone scouting, and harvest data analysis. We continuously collaborate with genetics suppliers, agronomists, nutritionists, and industry leaders to ensure our customers remain informed and supported.
